Are we ready for more? [Nov. 10th, 2006|05:21 pm]
jen
I'm replying to all my emails now, honest! New comic exercise, pretty much for fun and because it's true. I've always found the pre-flight safety demo strangely soothing, depending on the "performance".

It's something I never think about (and it's sort of a weird thing to think about), but once or twice a year in the minutes before flight I remember and get become inexplicably excited. It reminds me of this maiko dance routine video they played on a loop at the Asian Art Museum once. She mostly stood in one place the whole time, and her movements were small--such as a slow twirl of the wrist--but it was how each movement glided calmly, without haste, into the next that held me raptly mesmerized.

* oh yeah, and I misspelled "rehearsed".

Haha that's cute :3

She's saying thank you in the end right? (Is thank you usually spelt like that or am I going crazy?)

There's a new way of spelling it but this is the old school way. Which I stand firmly behind, illiteracy be damned!

Don' take this the wrong way (like that's ever likely to happen, but whatever), but this may my favorite thing of yours that you've ever done.

Maybe it's because of how it reads from top to bottom, or the way you executed the "next -> movement" panel.

THE END.

I think you're on to something. The more I do the more I can sense I'm getting over my experimental phase, and the more confident the pieces feel with a home base (like Monster Sex, for example). It's easier to explore new territory when you have a focus and I think I'm getting better at figuring out what that is.

I like scrolling down, and how it almost animates, but not quite.

Very nice. I love the bored look in her eyes the whole through. The line art is super smooth too, it makes her movements look so fluid, as if the whole thing were animated.

Wow.

. . . I had a flight attendant who did it just as fluidly as this once. It was great.

That is so awesome.

I was sorry to here post-Stumptown that you had a minicomic that I missed (I read about it on the Top Shelf blog). I got Clio's, though.

I love how graceful this is.

I was once on a flight in Norway, and I think its being a small airline leant a hand in its being utterly laidback and casual, because one of the flight attendants acted out the inflight safety demo in total comedic style. We were laughing and enjoying heartily. I can't imagine any airline doing that now, what with all their security hang-ups, but boy, I wish they would. Folks would pay rapt attention for sure!
