APE is over! I am fat now!
Or not really, but I may as well be. It's probably a testament to old age but these days cons mean fancy dinners, compared to attending cons as a teenager when I was so pumped full of adrenaline and an unwillingness to leave the floor I didn't eat at all. Really, Anime Expo at 17 was about apples and ramen at 2 in the morning. Now there's Naan n' Curry, Yoshi's, and crepes! So good! So adult!
My camera was low on batteries all weekend so I didn't take too many, and most came out blurry anyhow. I wanted to shoot film but there've been problems in that department. Next con I'll be prepared.
Vera and our digs. I was kinda a bad boother and spent all weekend walking around instead of...boothing. So sorry to anyone who may have been looking for me and missed me! I'll do better next con!
It's always good to see Raina and Dave. Next time we'll have to do a group Crepevine trip!
Neil took on the Suicide Girls and fancily dressed goths by showing up in a tie on Saturday. I just wanted to show everyone.
Patrick did such an amazing job of taking us to dinner and hosting Vera, Clio, and I for a couple evenings. Thursday night he took Clio and I for sushi and a free jazz show at Yoshi's by way of ferry. I've lived here forever and I've never done that. Thanks again, Patrick!
Crepe dinner at Ti Couz!
Everything looks gross here because we finished, but it was good dinner. This picture is about math.
Cute food attack!
Our Sunday panel, which Vera, Becky Cloonan and I sat out of because the table wasn't big enough. Haha, take that Clio and Erika!
I swear, Kazu looks more and more like a dad everytime I see him. The East Coasters have their "Princess Captain Kazu", but to me, he's "DAD".
Monday we had fancy gourmet lunches at Pixar with our friends at the studio. Again, I should've taken pictures of fooood. Such good foooood.
Eric took some amazing video footage of karaoke-night including Derek singing "Mony Mony" with Clio, Amy, and I as awkward backup dancers, but you'll have to wait for those.
Me and "Cars". I actually gotta say, the trailers had me bored and you could not make me interested in cars if you tried, but looking at the production artwork has changed my mind. Prove me wrong, Pixar!
There was some photoshoot going on for these "Cars" cakes. They looked pretty awkward and gross, which just made me more curious to eat them.
Clio and Sully, the best photo of the weekend. I want this as my desktop.
Anyway, thanks to people who came by! And as usual, it was great to see everyone again both local and out-of-town. "Monster Sex" sold well, and those of you in the LA area can now purchase a limited number of these at Gallery Nucleus. I might work out something with Ben later on where you can purchase prints directly from the website. Until then, stay tuuuned!
aw, good pics! looks like a swell time. :D
Just curious, is the Eric shown in the photo the Eric of emotioneric.com?

Who's that playing Ukulele ? Neil Babra ?
Ukulele is such a sweet instrument !!
2006-04-13 09:00 am (UTC)
Being able to do that and freak out all my friends is MY LIFE'S DREAM. Long Live Uke!!
Wow I'm bound to go back to San Fran just to check out all the myriad places to *eat*. And donuts are *so* in, down there.
EMOTION ERIC!!! does he ever update his site anymore?
i didn't make it to APE this year, going to try comic-con though. ;)
2006-04-13 08:57 am (UTC)
No, but he should! All he does is snowboard!
I'm still up-in-the-air about Comic Con due to scheduling and expenses, but it's a good con! I kinda miss stressful big annual nerdfests. :)
yeah! he left all his fans hanging!
i have one of his t-shirts still.
if i go to comic-con this year, it might be the first one i pay for. ;(
I think I should start a bootleg Emotion Eric site with my pictures of him!
I look weird in these pictures! But the others came out nicely. :D
I swear, between you and Raina, I am so hungry today...
You two should do con food columns.

Glad to have met you, albeit briefly.
Man, everyone looks so adorable!
Ah, APE... I wish APE was monthly.
oh, you seems to have had a wonderful time together.
Nice pics ! Thanks for this report !
I definitely have to plan a trip to APE one year or another, it looks very nice.
aaah a giant sully! XD Im still in that state of when i go to cons i forget to eat real food and only realize im starving by the end of the weekend.
yoshiiiiii's! it's been a good long while since i've been to yoshi's. that place is such a good concept.
If it wasn't blurry, the ukelele swooning would be my favorite. I am an avid ukele...li-ist? I don't know how to say it.
I play instruments!

That's right, I remember meeting a Leia. There will always be more cons!
Oh man! STOP HAVING SO MUCH FUN, PLEASE.
I will buy a ticket to San Fran just to yell at you if you call yourself "fat" ever again.
I add: You're in Flight and ate with Patrick Farley, ate at Pixar--who cares if you're fat!

Oh I'm just being humorous with the "fat". Really I'd be the first to slap myself if I were actually contemplating my weight. :)
Because, I mean DAMN: PIXAR!
Thanks for signing my copy of flight! It was awesome and your artwork is awesome and I'm glad you had a wonderful weekend! ^_^ <3
Some great pictures, Jen! Thanks for sharing those.
When were you at Anime Expo? I used to go all the time as a teenager (I was there every year from '99-'03)

I think I attended from 2000 to 2002? I feel like I only went to 2, but something says there could've been three also.

Aw, I hella wanted to make it to APE this year. It looks more than a little awesome.
On an unrelated note, I'm about 95% sure that you're in my history class.
2006-04-17 09:52 am (UTC)
That is entirely possible, although that would also be the history class I am never there for. Heh.
Hi, Jen! This is Jake - we met briefly at Hellen Jo's housewarming party, and just found your blog via the Beat. Thought I'd say hi and let you know I added ya.
Okay, I feel like SUCH a tard, but
OMG PIXAR!!!! EEEEEEEEKKKKkkkkkks!
Ok, so that's been like, my dream for 10 years... so sue me. Pictures make me happy in my pants (ok... but im not a guy so... yeah. No one can tell)
Anyway, I'm glad you had tons of fun! I haven't gone to a con yet (I live in the boonies in the good ol' beaver land) but I'm hoping to this summer (anime XP)
AAH man! What an excellent adventure! You guys've got it made!
aroo? Hm I checked Gallery Nucleus's website and I couldn't find the Monster Sex prints. Anyhoo, your art's super amazing and please have more prints available soon!~

I only gave about 30 or so to Gallery Nucleus so they'd only have them in-store, not online. At least not at the moment. I plan to distribute these myself once I get all my affairs straightened out.
that cute food looks soo cute! and delicious. what is it? they look like little sugary pillows and the jam pots (jam pots!) look like...i dunno, cuteness personified. wait a minute, those aren't beignets are they? i went to new orleans so long ago i don't remember what they look like but maybe vaguely like that? all i know is they tasted amazing.
